Nyssa biflora
The Swamp Tupelo (Nyssa biflora), also known as Swamp Black Gum, is a large, deciduous tree native to wetlands and swampy areas in the southeastern United States. It is characterized by its dark green, glossy leaves that turn brilliant shades of yellow, red, and purple in the fall. Swamp Tupelo produces small, inconspicuous flowers in spring, followed by dark blue to black, berry-like fruits that attract birds and wildlife. The tree has a distinctive, smooth, gray bark and a broad, spreading crown. It thrives in wet, acidic soils and full sun to partial shade, making it ideal for wetland areas and riparian landscapes.
