Description
Amelanchier canadensis
The Shadblow Serviceberry (Amelanchier canadensis) is a deciduous tree or large shrub native to North America, commonly found in woodland edges and along riverbanks. It typically grows 20–25 feet tall with a rounded or spreading form. In early spring, the tree is covered in clusters of white, star-shaped flowers before the leaves emerge. Its leaves are oval and finely serrated, turning vibrant red, orange, or yellow in the fall. The tree produces small, dark purple to black berries in summer, which are edible and attract birds. The Shadblow Serviceberry is valued for its ornamental beauty, early bloom, and ability to thrive in various soil conditions.
