Description
Catalpa speciosa
The Northern Catalpa (Catalpa speciosa) is a large deciduous tree native to the central United States, often found in moist, well-drained soils. It typically grows 40–60 feet tall with a broad, spreading canopy. The tree is known for its large, heart-shaped leaves and showy, trumpet-shaped flowers that bloom in late spring to early summer, featuring white petals with purple and yellow markings. These flowers give way to long, bean-like seed pods that persist into the winter. The Northern Catalpa is valued for its fast growth, distinctive appearance, and ability to provide shade. It is often used in landscaping and as a street tree, though it can be messy due to its falling flowers and seed pods. Attracts worms that are good bait for bass and bream.
