The Black Locust (Robinia pseudoacacia) is a fast-growing, deciduous tree native to eastern North America, known for its fragrant, white or pinkish flowers that bloom in late spring to early summer. Growing 30-50 feet tall with a broad, spreading crown, the Black Locust has compound leaves with small leaflets and thorns on its branches. Its wood is dense, durable, and highly valued for use in furniture, fencing, and posts. The tree is also valued for its ability to fix nitrogen in the soil, improving soil quality. While it is used in landscaping for its rapid growth and ornamental flowers, the Black Locust can become invasive in some areas.
