Description
Ligustrum amurense
Ligustrum amurense, commonly known as North or Amur privet, is a deciduous to semi-evergreen shrub native to northeastern Asia, including regions of China, Korea, and Russia. It is a member of the olive family (Oleaceae) and typically grows 12-15 feet (3.5-4.5 meters) tall and wide.
North privet is prized for its dense foliage, which consists of small, oval, dark green leaves that sometimes turn purplish in fall. It produces clusters of fragrant white flowers in late spring to early summer, followed by small, black, berry-like fruits that persist into winter and attract birds.
This hardy, fast-growing shrub is often used as a hedge, screen, or ornamental plant in landscaping. However, it can be invasive in some regions due to its prolific seed production and adaptability to various soil and light conditions.
