Ligustrum ibolium
Ibolium Privet (Ligustrum x ibolium) is a hybrid shrub derived from a cross between common privet (Ligustrum obtusifolium) and Amur privet (Ligustrum amurense). This deciduous to semi-evergreen shrub is known for its dense, arching branches and rapid growth, typically reaching 8-12 feet (2.5-3.5 meters) tall and wide.
The foliage consists of small, glossy, dark green leaves that may turn a purplish hue in fall. In summer, it produces clusters of small, creamy-white, fragrant flowers, followed by dark blue-black berries that persist into winter and attract birds.
Popular for hedges, screens, and borders, Ibolium privet is valued for its tolerance to pruning, adaptability to various soil types, and resilience in different climates. However, it can spread aggressively in some regions, so monitoring its growth is recommended.
