Metasequoia glyptostroboides
The Dawn Redwood (Metasequoia glyptostroboides) is a fast-growing, deciduous conifer native to China and often regarded as a living fossil, having been thought extinct until rediscovered in the 1940s. It features feathery, fern-like foliage that turns a rich golden-brown in the fall before shedding in winter. This tree can grow to impressive heights, often reaching 70–100 feet, with a straight trunk and reddish-brown bark that adds visual interest. Dawn Redwood thrives in moist, well-drained soils and full sun, making it an excellent choice for large landscapes, parks, and as a specimen tree. Its resilience and striking appearance make it a favored addition to gardens and arboretums.
